Hart's manuscript, written during his tenure as a surgeon's assistant, contains maps and a commentary tracing the Regiment's movements during the summer of 1864. The maps illustrate battles at North Anna River, Totopotomoy Creek, Deep Bottom Run, and Reams' Station. Accompanying commentary describes these engagements, particularly Reams' Station, and briefly mentions Cold Harbor. Regimental surgeons and their activities are discussed in depth.
